Summit Academy is thrilled to announce the return of our Welding trade class. In our completly renovated and brand new welding shop, students will again complete the PACTT welding curriculum. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to complete welding certificate through participation in the class. Career training and employability skills… paving the path to self-sufficiency.

2018 was a great year for our students at Summit Academy. 45 students earned their high school diploma and 70 students received their GED! Congratulations to these young men because education is the first step on the road to success!!!

The Summit Academy Knights basketball team is off to a great start this season. The boys have an 8-3 overall record and are 4-1 in the section. Come support the team Friday, 1/11 at Springdale and Tuesday, 1/15 at home against Winchester Thurston. Good luck boys!!!

New Outlook Academy students have access to our on-campus STEAM lab which is equipped with a 3-D printer, computers, and our newest technology addition, TWIKI, the interactive robot. This programmable teaching assistant will help bring lessons to life, making learning more fun and more concrete for students. Twiki connects theory to practice with hands-on projects that encourage participation, teamwork and creative problem-solving.

Through a fantastic partnership with the Talerico Group, New Academy Charter School has become the beneficiary of a one-year sponsorship for diapers and wipes to assist our students who are also parents. Sponsors from at least five states across the country responded to project coordinator, Holly McIlwain's request to purchase these supplies to be automatically sent to New Academy Charter School via Amazon. To date, New Academy Charter School parents have received more than 2,036 diapers and wipes.

We recently held our academic excellence assembly to recognize students who have earned honor roll status and other educational achievements. In addition to receiving certificates for a 3.5 or better grade point average in the last grading period, students were also honored for exceptional participation in our STEAM, Photography and Bakery classes.
We congratulate all of these special young ladies on these accomplishments. #educationforlife

Students at New Academy Charter School continued the "giving season" by volunteering at the Toys for Tots Warehouse where they helped make the holidays a little brighter for area children. They assisted non-profit organizations fill there vehicles with toy orders and sorted donated toys. The day was filled with a lot of hard work, smiles and tremendous satisfaction in knowing their efforts made others smile as well. #seasonofgiving

The holiday season isn't complete without a visit to Phipps Conservatory for their annual Holiday Magic display.

New Outlook Academy students enjoyed the brilliant light and flower show which is aptly named "Let it Glow" for the 2018 season. This year's this year's Winter Flower Show featured dazzling new displays of holiday trees, topiaries, exquisitely detailed props, and their signature floral delights, including amaryllis, orchids and more than 2,000 poinsettias.

The entire display brought on holiday joy and merriment for all to share. Happy holidays from our family at New Outlook Academy.

New Outlook Academy's Photography Class had an amazing opportunity to visit the Pittsburgh Art Museum and the Teenie Harris exhibit. Teenie Harris is an African American photojournalist who worked for the Pittsburgh Courier from the early 1930’s through the 1970’s. His work (more than 80,000 negatives) is considered one of the most in depth and important documentations of minority life in that era. Domonique Luster, who is the archivist for the collection, and Charlene Foggie-Barnett, who is featured in many of Teenie Harris’ photos as an infant, personally gave the girls a tour of the gallery and spoke with them about the current exhibit of his work.

In addition to the incredible learning experience, the student photographers also practiced their skills, photographing their outing. We look forward to seeing those images once they have the opportunity to review and edit their work.

Experiential learning… just another way that New Outlook Academy is developing amazing young women.
