Stitch walked in and “took pictures & gave high fives,” -A. “I wasn’t expecting it!”
A. was celebrating her 17th birthday when Beverly’s PGH arrived, ready to party. The most recent party featured a special guest appearance from Stitch as well as limbo, and sand art.
A. and the other birthday girls got a curated gift box just for them along with a personalized “shopping trip” at their boutique. While A. walked away with her arms filled gifts, the most important thing she walked away with was a memory filled with laughter, friendship, and good times.
Thank you Beverly’s PGHBeverly’s PGH for making each and every birthday celebrated at New Outlook memorable. You’re something our students look forward to at the end of every month.

“You wanna know what was really hard?” -L. “Spinning the pizza dough,” like they do in pizza shops.
Young Chefs Academy shared their kitchen, recipe, and patience with our students, showing them how to make pizza from scratch.![]()
Students rolled up their sleeves and got to work measuring flour, kneading dough, and chopping
fresh toppings.![]()

Each step guided them through important life skills:
Putting classroom lessons to use
Fostering collaboration & problem-solving
Building self confidence & self sufficiency
Grateful to U.S. Department of Agriculture , and Penn State for making this experience possible through PA Harvest of the Month funding. Thank you to Laree and her team at Young Chefs Academy as well, for sharing your time and kitchen with us! Fun was had by all.
Spinning pizza aside, L. had a great time making and an even better time eating her pizza, which was filled with pepperoni, peppers, and mushrooms. Unraveling a saved slice that she brought back to campus, you could see the pride she had in her creation and more importantly, in herself.

Whatβs really going on beneath our feet?
Summit students teamed up with Penn State to dig into soil testing in our garden!
Theyβre learning about checking pH levels, nutrients, and composition β all to understand how soil health affects plant growth. From science class to sustainable practices, they’re growing more than just veggies!

“It wasn’t just pictures on the wall,” -S. “I felt really connected to the pieces.”
Students visited the Mattress Factory – Museum of Contemporary Art through a Tickets for Kids Charities donation and took a detour to Randyland while in the neighborhood.
At the Mattress Factory, Eugene Macki’s “REIFICATION” installation evoked the feeling of “being in a void.” -S.
At Randyland, the feeling was more nostalgic. The graffiti “reminded me of where I grew up in Baltimore.”
Big thank you to all who made this trip possible, provoking thoughts and shaping perceptions through opening up doors to these experiential exhibits.

Students at Summit built a multi-faceted garden this year, including four raised garden beds, in-ground gardening, and container gardening. During the raised bed build, students learned about companion planting to help deter pests and promote healthy growth. Thanks to Whole Kids Market Foundation for making this possible!
