The first course is General Psychology which offers an introduction to the basic concepts and methodology of psychology and to the scientific study of behavior.

The second course, The World in 20th Century, examines the major issues of the twentieth century such as the causes and consequences of World Wars, the impact of western imperialism on the emergence of Third World nations states, and the Cold War.

12 students passed their Psychology class and 9 students passed 20th Century History. Congratulations to all of the students who took one more step toward earning their college degree.

Wishing congratulations to our GED graduates who recently participated in the Butler County Community College Commencement Ceremony. Arthur Stewart, Summit Academy GED and College within the High School Teacher, had the honor of addressing the graduates. In his remarks, Art shared, “Graduation is like climbing a set of stairs…how many steps are you willing to climb? This is the beginning for many of you. Whether you attend college, trade school, the military or a career, you can now move forward. You have shown great drive, determination and heart! You have achieved your goal. The sky is the limit, and many adventures await. The higher you climb the brighter you will shine. You should never accept failure and you should always strive to do your best." Also addressing his fellow students was Summit graduate, Christopher W.
We are so excited for what these bright students will accomplish next! CONGRATULATIONS and GOOD LUCK!!

Congratulations to Tyhirah P. for creating a winning entry in the Pennsylvania Juvenile Court Judges Commission 2019 Poster Competition. The theme of this year's contest was "Resilience – My Journey, My Voice, My Opportunity". Tyhirah's work was inspired by the courage and resilience she has demonstrated throughout her personal journey to heal from the trauma she has endured as victim of human trafficking.

We are very happy for Tyhirah and the other JCJC winners who will be recognized at this year's annual conference in November. #resilience

Because learning is not just academic, New Academy Charter School's Summer School program offers a service learning component for all students.
Projects are focused on several different social issues and completed projects benefit individuals across the Pittsburgh region. Students first learned the difference between volunteerism, service-learning and community service. They also learned some facts and statistics about foster care and how it feels to be a foster kid. The service component involved assembling care bags with personal messages to foster-involved youth which were distributed through Wesley Family Services. They also assembled packaged lunches for clients of the Rainbow Soup Kitchen in Homestead. Proud of our student contributions to our city!!
