Well deserved recognition for Coach Sherer from the Pittsburgh Coaches Corner and his former Coach Dan McCann. Congratulations Mr. Sherer… your school and your players will never forget you!

Hello. I was a student at Summit in 2007. I was just thinking about my time there and I have to say that it helped shape me into the person I have become. Since my departure I had some up's and down's but life has really been shaping up for me and one of the staples was being given the chance to spend my time there. New Academy Charter School recently had the pleasure of hosting corporate volunteers from companies including BNY Mellon and Bayer Corporation. Groups from both organizations came to complete a variety of projects that greatly enhanced the physical aesthetics of the the school. From painted the exterior courtyard and interior hallways, to cleaning out vacant classrooms to create our new workout room, the faculty and students of New Academy Charter School sincerely appreciate all of the effort contributed by these generous volunteers.

With assistance from a group of generous corporate volunteers from IventHelp, New Academy Charter School continued renovations by painting hallway and restrooms areas. Additionally, motivational messages were added to several spaces to provide inspiration to students and staff throughout their day.

New Outlook Academy held its first annual Chess Tournament on Thursday, October 18, 2018. To enter, students were required to interview with New Outlook Academy Teacher, Zach Gass, and answer questions about the basic rules of chess and demonstrated a few calculated moves. 30 students ultimately competed in the single elimination event. Congratulations to Alexa S. who was the winner of this year's tournament. Challenging spirits and minds – New Outlook Academy.

It will be extremely difficult to replace the impact that Steve Sherer has on our staff and students every day at Summit Academy. But his 42-year career will serve as a legacy and a model for future coaches and counselors alike. Thank you Mr. Sherer.

Congratulations to our students who successfully completed the ServSafe food protection certification exam. The students learned basic food safety requirements and sanitation techniques, as well as methods of thawing, cooking, cooling and reheating food. This nationally-recognized sanitation certification is required by most restaurants as a basic credential for their management staff, thereby increasing employability opportunities for these students. Good luck to these talented young ladies.

New Academy Charter School students participated in an Employment Assistance Workshop. During the workshop, students filled out sample, online job applications and set up gmail accounts for future job searches. A few of the students applied for jobs at places such as Dunkin Donuts, Wendy's and Pizza Hut. They also learned valuable skills related to resume building, interviewing and the best ways to present themselves to potential employers. This workshop is a component of the Career Planning class offered to our Juniors and Seniors as they work to achieve their post-graduation goals.
