Because learning is not just academic, New Academy Charter School's Summer School program offers a service learning component for all students.
Projects are focused on several different social issues and completed projects benefit individuals across the Pittsburgh region. Students first learned the difference between volunteerism, service-learning and community service. They also learned some facts and statistics about foster care and how it feels to be a foster kid. The service component involved assembling care bags with personal messages to foster-involved youth which were distributed through Wesley Family Services. They also assembled packaged lunches for clients of the Rainbow Soup Kitchen in Homestead. Proud of our student contributions to our city!!
