"A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all, it teaches entire trust," Gertrude Jekyll.
The beauty of a garden is that it accepts all who enter, regardless of skill set or prior experience. Most of the students involved in Garden Club are growing fresh produce for the first time. They start in the spring, planting tiny seedlings. They go out and weed, waiting patiently for their plants to grow. As the fruits and veggies ripen, they go out to harvest their bounty and reap the rewards of their hard work.
This week's harvest was so plentiful that the Garden Club gave back to the community, distributing fresh garden veggies to surrounding neighbors. The experience truly builds many transferable skills in hard work, patience, and perseverance.
Funding for this year's garden was provided through Whole Foods Market Foundation.
