New Outlook Academy is continuing its College with…

New Outlook Academy is continuing its College within the High School program through Allegheny County Community College! Classes currently being offered include Psychology 101 and Academic/Personal Development (SDS) 102.

Psychology 101 provides students with an understanding of how the scientific method is applied to the study of human and animal behavior.

SDS 102 is a course in the techniques for becoming a successful college student. Coping skills and strategies for transitioning to college are emphasized. The course fosters an awareness of self, the role of self-esteem and confidence in learning, and the importance of self-management skills and tools. Links between student needs and campus resources and processes are explored.

Summit Academy wrestling coach, Ryan Parrish, took some of his most dedicated wrestlers to watch a Division 1 wrestling match between 10th ranked University of Pittsburgh and Davidson College. After the match, University of Pittsburgh head wrestling coach, Keith Gavin, took the time to speak to the students about what it takes to be a college wrestler. Coach Gavin also gave them a tour of the wrestling facility!

Seniors at New Academy Charter School are provided many opportunities to explore post-secondary academic and career planning opportunities. Students have attended the Mon-Valley College Fair at CCAC South, toured CCAC Northside campus, Rosedale Tech and Triangle Tech and participated in presentations from IUP and Bidwell Training. Upcoming opportunities include visits from UPMC, Giant Eagle and Pittsburgh Career Institute at the school. Planning and preparation for the next steps… learning never ends.
