November 26, 2019

The 2019 James E. Anderson Pennsylvania Conference on Juvenile Justice was held in Harrisburg on November 6th-8th. Summit Academy’s clinical supervisor, Jason Wilson and lead counselor, Kathryn Flannery were chosen to present their workshop, “Empowering Youth to Overcome Addiction” during the conference. Citing research and incorporating various styles of positive reinforcement, Jason and Kathryn presented an empowerment approach to helping youth overcome addiction within the context of the juvenile justice system. The workshop helped juvenile justice professionals understand the complexities of addiction and taught them specific skill sets and approaches, such as Motivational Interviewing and Wellness in Recover, to incorporate into their everyday jobs. The workshop was also sponsored by both Narcan and South Central EMS to raise further awareness of overdose education and prevention. Great job Jason and Kathryn!
