Summit Students Deliver “Foster Love” Care Packages

Young children who find themselves in the foster care system often arrive at a temporary residence under difficult circumstances and many without personal belongings. One non-profit group in our area is working to help these children by providing care bags intended to make foster placement a more loving and comfortable experience.

The “Foster Love Project” collects donations of placement bags and comfort items to provide to children when they arrive at a foster home. Each duffel bag or backpack includes new pajamas, a blanket, stuffed animal, book, toothbrush, toothpaste, bath soap and a wash puff. Summit Academy students, once again, volunteered at the collection event, loading the placement bags for delivery to foster agencies in Allegheny and Beaver Counties.

Our young men take great pride and gratification in contributing to the worthy cause of making foster placement just a little more comfortable for kids across our region.

Summit Academy was honored to help with the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches’ Christmas Food Bank again this year! Students assisted in setting up the event by gathering donations from the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches headquarters to bring to the Christmas Food Bank venue. Students organized donated toys, clothes, and food so that participants could shop for their holiday season needs. On the day of the Christmas Food Bank, our young men also assisted the families in selecting gifts and groceries, as well as packing their vehicles. We love being a part of this wonderful holiday tradition each year, and our students appreciate this opportunity to give back during the holiday season.

Big things are on the horizon. Looking forward to exciting changes in 2018.

Ms. George's Biology class at New Outlook Academy has been hard at work completing plant cell and animal kingdom projects. Our 10th grade students are creating 3D models of cells, while the 12th grade students are making 3D posters on the different segments of the animal kingdom. Students are enjoying the hands-on, interactive process of creating their own works of art to depict what they are learning.

Students, probation officers and case workers recently attended the annual Summit Academy "Lunch with the Steelers" at Heinz Field. In addition to words of encouragement and wisdom from the Honorable Guido De Angelis, the guests also heard from Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker, Vince Williams. Echoing the sentiments of Judge De Angelis, Williams talked about the importance of discipline and commitment in achieving their goals. He also stressed his philosophy of focusing on the immediate priorities and waking up each morning with the plan to "win today"!!!
Students and guests were also treated to autographs, photos and a behind-the-scenes tour of Heinz Field.

The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) recently completed their 2017 on-site audit of The Summit Academy's Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Program.

We are incredibly proud to report that Summit Academy was 100% in compliance with DDAP licensing regulations, earning a perfect audit for the 2017 annual inspection.

Congratulations to our clinical team for a job well-done in providing exceptional services our students and stakeholders.

It was a beautiful day to attend the Summit Academy Knights football game.

New Outlook Academy – where new opportunities lead to infinite possibilities.

Enjoying a beautiful fall afternoon at the University Of Pittsburgh to cheer on the Lady Panthers on the soccer pitch and the softball diamond. Encouraging these young ladies to think about college in their future as well.

The Academy Charter School students recently completed creative mural projects. These works were designed and painted by teams of students and are currently displayed throughout our school. Additional pieces were also donated to area non-profit organizations.
