The Academy Charter School students and Rainbow Kitchen, partnered together to brighten the holidays and the lives of Pittsburgh-area homeless. The students stuffed holiday stockings with hand-made winter hats, lip balm, shaving cream and razor, facial soap, lotion, Kleenex, shampoo & conditioner, toothpaste and tooth brush and restaurant gift cards. The stockings were then passed out to the Rainbow Kitchen patrons at an event that included lots of smiles and hugs to warm the chilly winter weather.
The Academy Charter School has implemented a Good Neighbor Initiative that allows our students to give back to their community and help them to understand that they are part of a larger society of caring individuals. Our students look forward to continuing to volunteer in future projects.
The students of New Outlook Academy had a chance to volunteer with the “Play it Forward Pittsburgh” toy drive that was held at Century III Mall.
Founded in 2011, Play It Forward Pittsburgh is a children’s toy drive collecting gently used toys and offering them free to families who are in need or might be having a tough year. On Friday, December 11, our girls got the opportunity to be part of a volunteering team, stocking and organizing shelves to prepare for the event. They also helped families shop the next day. Tis the season to bring cheer!
The Summit Academy students, along with area probation officers, enjoyed a day with The Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to a lunch and tour of Heinz Field, the students had the pleasure of hearing words of inspiration and motivation from both Allegheny County Juvenile Court Judge, Jack McVay and former Steeler, Charlie Batch.
Our very creative New Outlook Academy students working on a wall-sized Periodic Table of Elements for their Chemistry class.
The Academy Charter School students had a hauntingly good time decorating their classroom doors. Here are the winners for the ‘Best Door Competition’ along with some honorable mentions!
