New Academy School students in Ms. Herriott’s Science Class created and observed chemical reactions through homemade volcanoes. Getting messy with a purpose in the name of learning! Well done! Pictured with their volcanoes are Dreyona T., Tyler R. and Tiffany H.
CATCH THE STUDENTS DOING SOMETHING GOOD!
New Academy Charter School kicked off the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) Initiative of “Catch the Students Doing Something Good!” A giant fishbowl, prominently displayed in the hallway, includes the names of students who are “caught” by staff members doing something good during the school day. There are regular drawings from the fishbowl for prizes to reward some lucky students who are going above and beyond in serving as positive role models, helping staff and peers and generally making a positive contribution to the school environment.
New themes for the initiative will be announced regularly to help students remained focused on maintaining a positive attitude all year long.

SUMMER SCHOOL – LEARNING AND GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY!
Throughout the first half of summer school, students had the opportunity to perform community service. They created blankets for babies in the NICU, made care packages for the homeless, built Little Free Libraries for the community and much more! Thanks to our awesome community for supporting our students and to the students for embracing our community by contributing their time and talents!
Congratulations to the New Academy Charter School 2021 graduates, including Valedictorian, La’Khya Thomas. She addressed her classmates at their recent commencement ceremony with words of encouragement and pride in having earned their diplomas during the challenge of a worldwide pandemic. We wish all of these students the best of luck in their future endeavors.
