NEW OUTLOOK BOOK CLUB SELECTS NEW TITLE

The New Outlook Academy Book Club has selected its next book. “Thick: And Other Essays” by the American sociologist, professor, and writer Tressie McMillan Cottom is a 2019 collection of essays that explores a range of topics, including womanhood, body image, and social media. It also covers the author’s experience as a southern black woman in academia. Thick was a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award.
Twenty-five young ladies have joined the book club for this reading, which will involve group chapter reviews and discussions.
We are thrilled with the interest, excitement, and enthusiasm demonstrated by the students participating in this thought-provoking group activity.

Students at New Outlook Academy participated in a poetry reading to share their unique creations with their counselors and peers. The projects were all created as "reverse poems" which are defined as works that convey one meaning when read top to bottom and a different meaning when read in reverse or from bottom to top.

All of the students were incredibly proud of their work and participation in the reading, including:
Ashay B. (CA/Riverside)
Latiavi H. (Cambria)
Alexandra J. (Westmoreland)
Makayla K. (LeHigh)
Jacklynn M. (West Virginia)
Janiyah T. (Cambria)
Paige T. (Wyoming)
Gracelynn W. (Blair).

All presenters and their guests were treated to a reception after the reading to celebrate their creativity and courage in sharing their personal poems.

WAKE UP NEW OUTLOOK ACADEMY WELCOMES TWO NEW HOSTS

Wake Up New Outlook Academy welcomes two new faces to their morning show news desk. Angelina F. and Ciera G., both from Monroe Co., Pennsylvania, have taken over as the show's new co-anchors. The daily news is broadcast to the students and staff to communicate important information, share upcoming events and generally provide some laughs to start the day.

No doubt their smiles make each morning at New Outlook Academy a little brighter for everyone.
