The Empower students at Summit Academy recently enjoyed a fun and engaging off-campus field trip to the Museum of Illusions in Pittsburgh!
Students explored more than 60 interactive exhibits that challenged their senses, sparked curiosity, and revealed the science behind fascinating optical illusions. From mind-bending displays to immersive experiences, there were plenty of opportunities to learn, laugh, and see the world from a whole new perspective.
Experiences like these encourage critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving while creating lasting memories outside the classroom.
At Summit Academy, we are proud to provide meaningful learning opportunities that inspire curiosity and make education come alive!
Students at Summit Academy, recently participated in an interactive medication safety presentation led by Linnay Kirst, Project Coordinator with Keystone Wellness.
During the session, students learned about the importance of using prescription medications safely, understanding warning labels, taking medications only as directed, and the dangers of medication misuse. They had thoughtful discussions about healthy alternatives, ways to support friends who may be struggling, and why medication safety is so important.
The lesson wrapped up with a fun Jeopardy-style quiz game that had all three teams finishing with a perfect score!
We are proud of our students for their outstanding participation, insightful questions, and willingness to engage in meaningful conversations that help build healthy habits and informed decision-making.

As he prepares to graduate from Summit Academy and begin the next chapter of his life, Josh G. is reflecting on the experiences that made his time here meaningful.
One of Josh’s favorite memories was participating in a community service project where he found an injured bird and helped nurse it back to health. The experience taught him compassion and the importance of helping others.
While at Summit, Josh participated in the Automotive and Welding Trades programs, earning certifications that will help him pursue future career opportunities. He was also an active member of the Photography Club, where he enjoyed expressing his creativity.
Before coming to Summit, Josh was never really involved in music. Through the school’s music program, however, he discovered a new way to express himself and even wrote a song for his parents titled “Coming Home Sorry.”
We are proud of all Josh has accomplished and wish him the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter. Congratulations, Josh!
Summit Academy’s Spring Concert was a wonderful celebration of talent, creativity, and community. Students and staff took the stage to showcase their musical abilities, creating an afternoon filled with entertainment and school spirit.
Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the concert. It was a fantastic event, and all who attended enjoyed the great performances and memorable moments!
After testing their knowledge during Summit Academy’s Cancer Awareness Jeopardy Competition, Ryan F., Brayden D., and James C., emerged as champions!
Students answered challenging questions focused on cancer prevention, health, and wellness, demonstrating their knowledge and critical thinking skills throughout the competition.

Ryan, Brayden, and James impressed everyone with their quick thinking, and commitment to learning about important health topics.

Over the past month, students at Summit Academy participated in an engaging Cancer Awareness & Prevention program led by Joe Kerley from the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Throughout the sessions, students learned about skin cancer prevention, the dangers of smoking and vaping, healthy nutrition choices, and ways to reduce cancer risks through healthier lifestyles.
The boys were highly engaged during every class — asking thoughtful questions, participating in hands-on activities, and even competing in a fun Jeopardy-style review game during the final session. From learning how sunburns increase skin cancer risk to discovering hidden sugars in everyday foods, students gained valuable knowledge while having fun along the way.
A huge thank you to Joe Kerley and the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center for providing such meaningful and interactive lessons for our students!
As Jase prepares to graduate from Summit Academy on June 12, 2026, we are proud to celebrate the remarkable growth and success he has achieved during his time with us. In the accompanying video, Jase reflects on his journey at Summit Academy and shares his plans for the future.
Jase’s mother describes Summit Academy as a blessing, sharing that she has seen a complete transformation in her son. She believes the support, guidance, and opportunities he received here helped change the course of his life.
After graduation, Jase plans to attend nursing school and pursue a career helping others. In recognition of his hard work and dedication, he will also receive the Samuel A. Costanzo Scholarship, awarding him $2,000 toward his education.
