Summit Academy students and staff had an amazing opportunity to hear from two inspiring men who spoke about overcoming obstacles in life to achieve success and happiness!

Denny Lane, who grew up in the foster care system, spoke about personal challenges and how mentors in his life inspired and believed in him when he did not believe in himself. He credits them with contributing to his accomplishments as a successful businessman today.

Bruce Baumgartner, one of the most accomplished wrestlers of all time with 4 Olympic and 9 world championship medals, spoke about what it took to elevate his athletic skills from average to extraordinary. He challenged Summit Academy students to find their passion and never give up. He also shared his four rules to success:
1. Set your goals, and set them high.
2. Surround yourself with people who can get you there.
3. Take care of your mind and body.
4. Do your best.

Thank you Denny and Bruce for your time and inspiration. Exceptional day to be a Knight. #Uknighted

The Summit Academy Book Club has selected to read "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton for their first book of 2020. The students will read chapters together and then discuss the story of two groups of teenagers whose bitter rivalry stems from socioeconomic differences. Ultimately, the characters come to realize that the differences in social class do not necessarily mean they have to be enemies. We look forward to hearing feedback and opinions of the book from the group's participants.
