Students in Ms. Royal's Health and PE class are working on describing the relationship between health and wellness. They were asked to find various ways to describe the three categories of the health triangle (social health, physical health and mental/emotional health) proving the point that all aspects of our life and the world around us can be traced back to one of the three areas of health and well-being.

[ad_1] EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING & ENGAGEMENT Ms. Erin’s chemistry class is at it again, incorporating STEM concepts and experiential learning to inspire collaboration among her students. The new challenge was to launch a pompom as far as possible using a popsicle stick catapult designed by the students. Malik I. (Montgomery Co.), Taveon W. (California) and Kysheem W. [ad_1] MAKING COLLEGE A REALITY 18 Summit Academy students are currently enrolled in two college courses this spring through our College within the High School program. The first course is General Psychology which offers an introduction to the basic concepts and methodology of psychology and to the scientific study of behavior. The second course, American National Government, is the study of the process of National Government: the Congress, the President, and the Judiciary. Other topics covered include federalism, political parties, elections, interest groups, civil liberties, and public policy. The following students are enrolled in classes: Rodney B. (Beaver Co.) WELDING CERTIFICATIONS!!

Exploring the Wonderful World of Wheels

Summit Academy students who are currently participating in our automotive-related trade class had the opportunity to attend the 2020 Pittsburgh International Auto Show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The auto show featured some of the hottest vehicles on the market, exotic and luxury cars and classics! No doubt these boys enjoyed checking out how it felt behind the wheel of these cool rides.

PARTNERS IN HOPE & LOVE BECAUSE ANYBODY CAN SERVE

Once again, Summit Academy students volunteered with the Foster Love Project. The mission of this exceptional organization is to provide love in action to foster children, as well as support to the foster families who are providing care for them. Summit students Ismael C. (Franklin Co.) Lewis H. (Sacramento, CA), Marquise H. (Montgomery Co.), William K. (Blair Co.), Philip M. (Chester Co.,) and Demetrius M. (Westmoreland Co.) loaded several hundred bags of clothes and school supplies onto vans for delivery to the site.

Thanks to the Foster Love team for continuing their valuable work and including our young men in the effort!!!

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING IN ACTION

Ms. Erin's chemistry class in incorporating STEM into her classroom through experiential learning. The first activity that the students worked on was creating boats from tin foil to see how many pennies could be supported! The winning boat was able to support 105 pennies!
