Mental health is a part of life — for ALL of us.

The uncertainty and stress of COVID-19 will affect you and your loved ones in different ways and at different times. Some days will be better than others. And each of us can be the reason someone has a better day. Keep connecting. Keep caring.

CONGRATULATION TO PENNY TINSLEY

Penny Tinsley is known at New Academy Charter School for her calming influence and her ability to make any situation better. In her almost 30 years with The Academy Schools, Penny has been responsible for managing Family Counseling, coordinating student transportation, and most importantly, facilitating new student recruitment.
Ms. Penny, as she is affectionately referred to by our students, has influenced and improved the lives of thousands of students throughout her career.
We celebrate Penny as her full-time service is coming to an end but we are very thankful that she has agreed to remain with New Academy Charter School on a part-time basis to continue her work assisting newly enrolled students and their families.
Thank you Penny for your historic and continued commitment and dedication to our schools and our students.

UNIQUE SOLUTIONS FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING CHALLENGES

New Academy Charter School recently launched a Mobile Virtual Solutions Committee (MVSC). The group was created to directly assist students and families experiencing challenges with our current virtual learning platform. While virtual support is available to all students via phone or zoom communication, this committee sets appointments with those students and families whose questions and concerns require a higher level of assistance. Our teachers visit the students' homes during their scheduled appointment times, maintaining COVID mitigation practices, and provide one-to-one assistance to remove whatever barriers to learning may exist.

We congratulate our teachers for this unique and dedicated approach to ensuring that all students have an equitable opportunity to succeed in the virtual learning environment.

EXPRESSIVE WRITING AT NEW OUTLOOK ACADEMY

Students at New Outlook Academy participated in a poetry reading to share their unique creations with their counselors and peers. The projects were all created as "reverse poems" which are defined as works that convey one meaning when read top to bottom and a different meaning when read in reverse or from bottom to top.

All of the students were incredibly proud of their work and participation in the reading, including:
Ashay B. (CA/Riverside)
Latiavi H. (Cambria)
Alexandra J. (Westmoreland)
Makayla K. (LeHigh)
Jacklynn M. (West Virginia)
Janiyah T. (Cambria)
Paige T. (Wyoming)
Gracelynn W. (Blair).

All presenters and their guests were treated to a reception after the reading to celebrate their creativity and courage in sharing their personal poems.
